Save three lives!
Feb. 14 is National Blood Donor Day
The need for blood donations goes beyond what you see in the
news. Can you believe what 30 minutes can do?
I have saved 1,392 lives by donating blood over the last
36 years. Are you up to the challenge?
By Dc. Al Prescott, February 2010

Thirty-seven years ago this past October, a stranger saved my
wife’s life by donating a pint of blood.
I did not know this person, and I have never met this
life saving angel, but in my heart, this person is in my
thankful prayers each day.
A stranger living the Gospel of Matthew, 25:35-36—
“For I was… ill and you
cared for me.”
The need for blood donations goes beyond what people see on
television and the news. Blood is needed for individuals being
treated for cancer, accident victims, babies that are born
prematurely, individuals with anemia, and many more people in
desperate need.
Blood donations save lives and there is no substitute. It must
come from one individual to go to another, and every donation
can help save up to THREE lives.
When I speak to people who haven’t given blood before, or
haven’t given in a long time, I always boldly ask what could be
their excuse for not stepping up to this life saving event.
Here are some of the excuses that I often hear, and my response
back to them:
1.
“I’m afraid of needles!” DON’T
LOOK!
2.
“I don’t have the time.”
God controls our
time.
3.
“I am not interested.”
I remind them of
Matthew 25:35-36.
4.
“Takes up too much of my time.”
It only takes 30
minutes to save three
lives!
5.
“I get dizzy.”
A nice glass of
orange juice cures this.
6.
“Afraid of contracting a virus.”
Sterile equipment
is used.
7.
“I don’t care.”
Hmmmm, can’t figure this
one out…what can you say to that?!?
I urge each and every one of you who is reading this article to
roll up a sleeve and offer your arm to save three precious
lives. Take the time, whether at our quarterly blood drives or
at a local blood center. YOU can make a difference in just 30
minutes of your time!
The next blood drive at Prince of Peace is the weekend of Feb.
13-14, in honor of National Blood Donor Day.
Please join us and help give the gift of life!
To participate, you may sign up at the Welcoming Sunday held
Feb. 6 – 7, or you may contact me,
Dc. Al Prescott
any time. I’d love to talk to you about this.
I stand by my statements as I am a donor. I am proud to say I
just finished donating my 58th gallon of blood, which
adds up to 1,392 lives. I will see you either on Feb 13
or 14. I’ll be the one on the one arm machine donating red
blood cells and plasma.
