Veterans Appreciation Dinner

The Knights of Columbus are hosting a Veterans Appreciation Dinner on Sunday, November 8, from 6:30-8:30 pm at the St. Andrew Discipleship Center. It’s a free evening to honor veterans, active duty members, and their families, with an inspiring talk from Lt. Col Dan Hickox. Bring your family for a wonderful meal, community, and a chance to salute those who’ve served. If you plan to attend, please register here to assist with food planning.

Donate Hygiene Products to Support Local Veterans
U.S. Vets needs a variety of items to support our veterans. Hygiene items include full-size body wash, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, razors, shaving powder or cream, travel first aid kits, hair combs or brushes, lotion, nail clipper kits, body spray, and Q-tips.
Personal items needed are socks, slippers, underwear, and t-shirts in a variety of sizes, as well as full-size blankets, hats and gloves, pillows, and full-size sheet sets.
Items will be collected at the door and distributed on Veterans Day, Monday, November 10th.

Guest Speaker: Lt Col Dan Hickox

Lt Col Dan Hickox graduated from West Point and completed a 25-year career in the Air Force.  Home-based out of Little Rock, Clark, and Dyess, he flew C-130 missions over five continents, including combat airlift operations over Cambodia in 1974.  He also served on the HQ TAC staff as a war planner for the Tactical Air Control System and planned air operations for the Joint Force Air Component Commander while the Deputy Director of Plans at Eighth Air Force.  Dan spent three years as an acquisition manager at HQ Military Airlift Command and served as the first C-130 Operations Support Squadron commander.

After retirement, he spent the next 15 years with Boeing as a senior manager and senior systems engineer on the B-1 Bomber Program.  

Now retired from Boeing, Dan is a business owner in the legal field and holds graduate degrees in engineering, business, and military history.  

He has given talks on a wide range of subjects, including ethics in the engineering workplace, his exploits in Southeast Asia to veteran B-17 combat crewmembers, a history of the 4th Fighter Interceptor Wing in the Korean War to 4th FIW Korean War veterans, the origins of World Wars I and II to the North Carolina Military History Round Table at Wayne Community College, Goldsboro, NC, and he presented a paper to the East Texas Historical Association on Joseph Bonnell, a hero of the Texas War for Independence.  

Dan joined the Travis County Historical Commission in 2015, has been a life member of the Air Force Historical Foundation for 35 years, and the Order of Daedalians (fraternal order of US military aviators) for 30 years, and is active in the Austin Civil War Round Table.
